Invited Talk by Dr. Amador Pérez-Tomás at the CDE 2025 Conference

Dr. Amador Pérez-Tomás, member of the PDS Group and workpage leader of the Safepower Project, participated as an invited speaker at the Spanish Conference on Electron Devices (CDE 2025), held in Málaga on January 28–29. In his talk, titled Wide and Ultrawide Bandgap Semiconductors: There Also is Plenty of Room at the Wide Side, Dr. Pérez highlighted the critical role of wide and ultrawide bandgap (WBG/UWBG) semiconductors—such as SiC, GaN, and Ga₂O₃—in the future of sustainable power electronics. These materials are emerging as key enablers of the green and digital transition, thanks to their ability to deliver superior energy efficiency, high-temperature performance and voltage handling capabilities. The presentation also underscored the alignment of this research with the core objectives of the Safepower project. As part of this Horizon Europe initiative, Dr. Pérez and his team are advancing innovative solutions to improve the safety, reliability, and sustainability of WBG-based power technologies. His work contributes directly to the project’s mission of accelerating the deployment of next-generation energy systems for applications in renewable energy, electric mobility, and industrial power conversion
