The importance of power electronics is rapidly increasing in today’s world, primarily driven by the growing need for electrification in order to eliminate fossil fuels consumption. Power converters are responsible for the processing and control of electric energy, ensuring efficient management of high amounts of electrical power. Power converters primarily consist of power devices (such as transistors, thyristors, and diodes), and passive elements. One effective approach to implement power converters is utilizing power modules. These modules incorporate power devices, local control, and protection circuits, all packaged together. This approach not only facilitates the implementation of complex power converters but improve compactness and reduces parasitic elements.
Mariana Raya from PDS group gave this presentation within the cycle IMBCNMtalks firstly introducing the fundamental concepts of power electronics and gradually progress towards our current research on self-powered smart power modules.
